This beat, our fourth and final beat, was the most unique in many ways. After a semester of being told what to write we had a choice to write about our own individual interests. Naturally I chose sports and a unique experience came up, that I knew I had to explore.

I chose to write about University of Northern Iowa Guard, Antwan Kimmons, and his role in this years UNIty walk. Kimmons has had a far from normal experience here at UNI as he is a personality on the court but knows when his family needs him. Kimmons took the year off of sports during COVID and went back home to support his sister and mother. Upon returning, he stepped out of his comfort zone and spoke at the UNIty walk about Black representation in America. One oppportunity seemed to rise at the perfect time, Tom Cullen, son of Pulitzer Prize winner Art Cullen and top reporter at the Storm Lake Times came to our class so we could interview him before a viewing of their documentary later that evening. Cullen had an interesting story to tell about his background and his role with the Pulitzer Prize even letting us in on some insight to how the newsroom runs in small, Storm Lake, Iowa.
